Microsoft Agent Setup for Text-to-Speech

Applications and websites must specifically install several required components to enable use of the Microsoft text-to-speech technologies. The links to the Micrtosoft web site listed below will allow you to directly download/install these components, or for further information, please see Microsoft Agent Downloads.

System Requirements

Download Now (from Microsoft)

  1. Required - Microsoft Agent Core Components (version 2.0 395K)

Download this setup program (MSAgent.exe) and run it to install the core components. You may then delete this setup program. Windows 2000 and Windows Me Users skip this step - the Microsoft Agent Core Components are already installed on Windows 2000 and Windows Me.
  2. Required - Merlin (1.8MB)

Download the setup program (Merlin.exe) and run it to install the character on your computer. You may then delete this setup program. Other Microsoft Agent Characters are also available.
  3. Required - The Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice, Text-to-Speech Engine (English version 1MB)

The Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice Text-to-Speech (TTS) Engine provides speech output capabilities for Microsoft Agent so you can hear what the characters are saying through your sound speakers. Download this setup program (tv_enua.exe) program and run it to install the TTS Engine. You may then delete the setup program.
  4. Optional - The Microsoft Speech Control Panel (840K)

The Speech Control Panel will add an icon to your Control Panel to enable you to list the compatible text-to-speech engines installed on your system and customize their settings for your use.
